Doctors say that people with celiac disease cause their immune system to overreact with the gluten but the cause behind this is unclear. The small intestine is lined with villi which is tiny hair like projections. The villi absorb nutrients from the food you ingest. Celiac disease damages the villi leaving your stomach incapable of absorbing nutrients needed for the whole body.
Such a disease is serious but doctors still cannot pinpoint what is causes this disease. Doctors say that it may be hereditary.
If someone in the family had celiac disease, which is the probable cause why you may have it too. According to some studies, gene mutations increase the chances of having celiac disease. There are plenty of risk factors contributing to the development of celiac disease but as of now, it is best to be cautious about your diet and avoid eating protein gluten.
Treatment for Celiac Disease
There is no cure for celiac disease but your symptoms may go away if you stick to a gluten-free diet. Stay away from medications, foods and beverages that contain rye, barley and wheat.
Read labels carefully to look for these grains and ingredients connected to them. This diet is a bit challenging since wheat and barley grains are common ingredients in alot of foods and medications we digest. Education, planning and determination will help you heal.
